Senior Corrosion Engineer

This is a full-time hybrid position for an employee based in the Salt Lake City area. The role combines remote work, in-person collaboration, and field assignments in the Salt Lake City area and throughout the western United States. Attendance at the office, client meetings, and project sites is required as project needs dictate.
Lead corrosion control projects that protect essential infrastructure throughout the western United States. ICG is seeking an experienced Senior Corrosion Engineer to guide technical work, manage client relationships, and mentor engineering and field personnel.
Based in the Salt Lake City area, ICG provides corrosion engineering and technical services to the water, oil and gas, and transportation industries. Our work includes cathodic protection, AC mitigation, stray current analysis and mitigation, protective coatings, and condition assessments.
The Opportunity
You will take projects from field investigation through design, construction support, and final recommendations. This role combines technical leadership and direct client contact with direct problem solving. The anticipated workload is approximately 75% office work and 25% field work, with occasional overnight trips typically lasting one to five days.
What You Will Do

Lead cathodic protection investigations and designs; establish testing objectives and develop practical corrosion mitigation recommendations.

Plan, perform, and oversee field testing, including structure-to-electrolyte potentials, soil resistivity, current requirements, electrical continuity, dynamic stray current, and pipeline current mapping.

Diagnose cathodic protection system deficiencies, evaluate AC and DC interference, and coordinate mitigation with clients and affected utilities.

Prepare and review engineering calculations, drawings, technical specifications, cost estimates, and reports that translate field data into clear recommendations.

Support coating and condition assessment projects, and monitor construction for conformance with design requirements.

Manage project scopes, budgets, schedules, staffing, and client communications across concurrent assignments; prepare proposals and review project invoices.

Provide technical supervision, mentor engineers and technicians, and review deliverables for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.

Follow project safety requirements, maintain assigned equipment, and keep technical knowledge current through continuing education and professional participation.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in chemical, civil, corrosion, electrical, materials, or a related engineering discipline.

Active Professional Engineer license and AMPP Cathodic Protection Technologist (CP3) certification or higher.

At least 8 years of cathodic protection survey and design experience.

Demonstrated ability to manage projects, solve technical problems, lead teams, and communicate clearly with clients through written reports and direct discussions.
Preferred Qualifications

AMPP Cathodic Protection Specialist (CP4) certification and coating inspection certification.

Experience with AC mitigation, AC and DC stray current interference, utility design and construction, and construction inspection.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel for engineering data analysis and Word for technical reporting; experience with AutoCAD.

MSHA 24-hour surface mining training and operator qualifications for applicable pipeline corrosion tasks.

Location and Field Requirements
The position is based in the Salt Lake City area and supports projects throughout the western United States. Local candidates are preferred; relocation assistance is not provided.
Field assignments involve industrial and construction environments that may include exposure to chemicals, loud machinery, and extreme temperatures. The role requires appropriate personal protective equipment, extended periods of walking or standing, and lifting equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with reasonable accommodation as applicable.
Candidates must own and maintain a dependable, insured four-wheel-drive vehicle for work-related travel. ICG provides mileage reimbursement and a vehicle allowance.

Corrosion Technician

Help protect essential infrastructure through field testing, troubleshooting, and equipment installation. ICG is seeking an experienced Corrosion Technician to perform cathodic protection surveys, support condition assessments, and maintain corrosion control systems.
Based in the Salt Lake City area, ICG provides corrosion engineering and technical services throughout the western United States. You will work with engineers and other technicians to collect reliable field data and help clients address corrosion problems.
The Opportunity
This role combines independent field assignments with team based testing and installation work. The anticipated workload is approximately 80% field work and 20% office work, including data entry, review, and reporting. Projects involve cathodic protection testing, close interval surveys, soil resistivity surveys, condition assessments, and installation of cathodic protection equipment.
What You Will Do

Perform and assist with cathodic protection surveys, close interval surveys, soil resistivity testing, and condition assessments; record and check field data for accuracy and completeness.

Test, troubleshoot, and repair cathodic protection systems; identify deficiencies and recommend corrective actions for review by project engineers.

Install cathodic protection test stations, reference electrodes, junction boxes, bond cables, rectifiers, and remote monitoring units within assigned responsibilities and qualifications.

Observe contractor installations and document conformance with project plans and specifications, reporting deficiencies to the project team.

Read and follow construction drawings, specifications, testing procedures, and written and verbal instructions.

Prepare daily field reports and maintain organized survey data, project records, and supporting documentation.

Coordinate professionally with clients, contractors, and ICG personnel; organize assigned work across multiple projects.

Follow safety requirements, use appropriate personal protective equipment, and maintain assigned tools and test equipment in good working condition.
Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.

AMPP Cathodic Protection Tester (CP1) certification or Corrosion Technician certification.

At least three years of cathodic protection system testing and troubleshooting experience.

Working knowledge of basic mathematics, electricity, and electrical test equipment, including digital multimeters, ammeters, and voltage data loggers.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team, communicate clearly, and maintain accurate records; familiarity with Microsoft Office and Teams.

Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites, including overnight assignments and weekend work when required.
Preferred Qualifications

Associate degree in a relevant technical field.

AMPP Cathodic Protection Technician (CP2) certification or higher, or coating inspection certification.

Field work involves industrial and construction sites, rough or uneven terrain, and exposure to inclement weather, extreme temperatures, loud machinery, and various materials and chemicals. Appropriate personal protective equipment is required.
Physical tasks include using hand tools such as sledgehammers, shovels, and picks; standing or walking for extended periods; walking up to eight miles per day; and lifting equipment weighing up to 60 pounds, with reasonable accommodation as applicable.
